Monitor Shows Down But My Site Is Up

There are several reasons why Blimey might report your site as down even when it appears to work in your browser.

Common Causes

1. Firewall or WAF Blocking

Some web application firewalls (WAFs) like Cloudflare, Sucuri, or AWS WAF may block automated monitoring requests. Blimey uses a realistic browser User-Agent header to minimize this, but some firewalls are very strict.

Solution: Whitelist Blimey's monitoring IP addresses in your firewall rules.

2. Geographic Restrictions

If your site uses geo-blocking, it may be accessible from your location but not from Blimey's monitoring servers.

Solution: Ensure your site is accessible from all regions, or whitelist the monitoring server's IP range.

3. Rate Limiting

Very aggressive rate limiting might block frequent monitoring requests.

Solution: Increase your rate limit threshold or whitelist the monitoring User-Agent.

4. Intermittent Server Issues

Your site might be experiencing brief outages that you don't notice in a browser but the monitor catches.

Solution: Check your server logs for the times Blimey reported downtime.

Still Seeing Issues?

If you've checked all of the above and your monitor still shows as down, contact support with your monitor ID and the approximate time of the false alert so we can investigate further.
